Job Description

The Kaplan House (Manhattan) provides therapeutic and support services to adolescent’s ages of 17-21 who are referred to us through ACS and the Juvenile Justice system. Our residents have experienced significant trauma, resulting in behavioral, emotional, and functional/developmental issues, and Kaplan House offers an extensive independent living skills program, including vocational preparation, and educational services that assists youth towards reaching independence.                

The Student Resources Coordinator will provide academic services to the Kaplan House residents, strengthening their academic skills, and providing a personalized academic program for each resident that addresses their specific needs and goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Providing tutoring for Kaplan House resident
  • Supervising volunteer tutors and teachers that assist with tutoring services
  • Visiting schools to meet with administrators, teachers, guidance counselors; supporting staff around the needs of residents attending school
  • Assisting residents with career and education exploration, including: assisting with resume building, distributing occupational information, evaluating student’s aptitudes/abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data; assisting residents in making appropriate career choices and pre-employment efforts; searching for educational programs such as GED, vocational and post-secondary colleges; escorting residents to college fairs, vocational open house meetings and other information; assisting with class registration and financial aid; advocating  for residents who need special academic services such as, testing accommodations
  • Coordinating cultural enrichment activities including theater, book clubs and museum trips; maintain the learning Center as a supportive environment that offers residence a place work independently on various academic projects as needed; maintaining/arranging for servicing of learning center Computers
  • Meeting with CSE committee on behalf of residents' needs
  • Creating monthly reports; attending weekly supervisions and regularly scheduled program/staff meetings
  • Attending trainings and planning meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned 


  • A Master's level degree in human services field with appropriate NYS licensure (e.g. LMSW, LMHC, CRC)
  • A current, valid clean Driver’s license is required for this position
