Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Manhattan West Counseling Center is a specialty clinic serving transition age youth (14-26 year olds).  The social worker is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive and evidence based interventions to clients and families.  The caseload will consist primarily of youth who are aging out of foster care or have been involved in the child welfare system.  The social worker will also be responsible for participating in outreach activities to child serving agencies and service providers to facilitate referrals to the clinic.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Outreach and engagement of transition age youth aging out of child serving systems or who have been involved in foster care to facilitate referrals to the clinic.

  • Provide evidence-based treatment interventions to transition age youth, inclusive of their families and support systems.Modalities include individual, groups, family, collateral treatment.

  • Crisis intervention when indicated as part of the client’s treatment.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, e.g. progress notes, assessments and treatment plans, statistics, and other documentation as required by The Jewish Board and other governmental licensing and funding entities.

  • Participate in supervision and training activities.

  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.

  • Engage in continuing education activities.The Jewish Board offers CEUs at no cost to its social workers.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED:

Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:

A minimum 1 year of relevant experience with similar population/setting strongly preferred.

PREFERENCES: Fluency in Spanish.  Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED (List the computer skills needed):

Prior experience with electronic health records and Microsoft Office

VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXTERITY:

Ability to work on computer; travel independently using public transportation

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Position involves travel as part of outreach and engagement activities and developing professional relationships with providers in other Jewish Board divisions as well as outside organizations.  Office based work environment at the clinic site.
