Job Description


Building on a prevention framework, school based mental health coaches will provide short-term coverage in schools involved in the 100 Schools Project, with a goal of fostering mental health literacy, supporting school staff to identify students at risk, and working with school communities to reduce the stigma related to mental illness, substance misuse and trauma. In addition, coaches will work to provide effective linkages to behavioral health services in the larger community. The project offers both prevention work for the entire school population, screening and brief intervention for vulnerable populations (LBGTQ, new immigrants, etc.) and referrals for students and families with a behavioral health issues.  This program aims to provide teachers with more options, increase student access to mental health services, and include greater family engagement through community referrals, parent workshops, and trainings.


  • Professional development for teachers and school staff.

  • Classroom observation, support (e.g. self-care, stress management), and case conferencing.

  • Crisis intervention, planning and “post-vention.”

  • Attend school staff meetings and participate on crisis teams and other school committees.

  • Parent workshops on behavioral health topics.

  • Make referrals to community providers, create linkages between community providers and school, work with parents on finding treatment resources.

  • Assist school in writing policies or initiating school wide prevention efforts related to behavioral health concerns or to improve school climate (e.g. anti-bullying campaigns, reducing mental health stigma, etc.).

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records, statistics, and other documentation as required by the Office of School Health, JBFCS and the school.

  • Opportunity to become involved in research projects conducted by the program, design trainings, participate in planning and implementation of new programs depending upon the interests and skills of staff.


  • Clinical license including LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LCAT, or LMFT.CASAC with years of school experience will also be considered.Experience in a school or working with adolescents is strongly preferred


  • Basic computer skills required
