Job Description

The Residence Manager provides leadership to the staff of the Brooklyn Community Residence.  S/he is instrumental in taking the steps necessary to ensure that the program’s goals and mission are implemented in line with Agency expectations and practices as well as the smooth operations of the program in line with the Director’s instructions. 

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (List the functions that are essential to achieve the goals):

  • Assumes supervisor responsibility for program staff.This includes staff supervision (including any necessary disciplinary actions), training, development and evaluation.The Residence Manager also ensures that appropriate and timely direct clinical supervision is provided to all direct care staff

  • Performs routine audits of client records to ensure completeness and compliance with Agency standards

  • Ensures safety and confidentiality of all client records

  • Ensures safety of all controlled substances and medications within program and audits procedures in order to verify that appropriate protocols are being followed at all times.

  • Monitors mediation records to ensure that medication is being distributed as prescribed

  • When necessary, works directly with consumers in times of crises, specific need or when additional help, guidance, support or training is required by staff assigned to a client who is unsure on how to meet a clients needs or who has expressed difficulty in working successfully with a client

  • Ensures that systems are in place to meet consumer and employee safety needs

  • Ensures that the physical plant/facility meets safety and aesthetic standards in line with governmental and regulatory requirements

  • Actively oversees and may participate in intake, case conferences and discharges

  • Ensures appropriate psychiatric, assessment, therapeutic and independent living disciplines are available and administered to the consumers

  • Identifies, establishes and maintains relationships with community representatives and groups in order to establish enhanced linkages for the consumer population, and acts as a primary liaison/advocate with OMH for all specific program needs

  • Shares responsibility with the Program’s director to ensure that the program is fully staffed.Towards that end, s/he is active in the recruitment process for various staff and participates in candidate selection.

  • Has responsibility for development of and adherence to program’s budget(s)

  • Completes special or ad-hoc projects and tasks, as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum four years of experience and at least one which involved significant supervisory responsibilities

  • Knowledge of the adult mentally ill population strongly preferred.

  • The position requires that the incumbent carry a beeper/pager.
