Job Description

The Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependent Persons and Significant Others (JACS) Program Director is responsible for:  developing an annual work plan; implementing this work plan; managing the relationships among JACS staff, members, and volunteers; developing relationships between JACS and other alcohol and substance abuse treatment providers; and developing and managing relationships between JACS and Jewish communal organizations that make use of JACS’ services, such as day schools and synagogues.


  • Counseling people in crisis, and providing information and referral
  • Collaborating with Jewish Communal Service Providers & Substance Abuse Treatment Programs
  • Collaborating with lay leaders and volunteers
  • Providing substance abuse prevention education
  • Planning and leading recovery support activities, such as sober Jewish holiday events, retreats.
  • Working with Jewish Board support units, such as marketing, and development.
  • Maintaining contact with JACS members, especially through social media


  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or other Human services-related field.
  • Training in Substance Abuse.
  • Training in Mental Health Services preferred.
  • Substance Abuse Prevention and/or Treatment Groupwork
  • Jewish Communal Work (e.g., at JFS, JCC, day School, camp, youth group)
  • Volunteer recruitment, training, supervision preferred
  • Word, Excel, Outlook Email, social media
  • Some database experience preferred.
