Job Description

OVERVIEW: The Administrator on Duty is responsible for ensuring client safety and the security of the program’s grounds, cottages, buildings, and offices. On shifts where two AODs are scheduled, the Milieu Director or Senior Team Leader responsible for scheduling the shift will assign a Lead AOD and a Secondary AOD.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  • Provide reports for senior management as needed.
  • Direct oversight of day to day operations of the program including; regularly inspection of all residential and office buildings to ensure that no unauthorized persons, activities or immediately hazardous conditions (such as fire, burst pipes, etc.) exist, and in regards to residential sites, ensure that all residents and workers are on-site and accounted for.
  • Regularly inspect the grounds of the facility, including parking facilities, vehicles, non-residential buildings (i.e. storage facilities, cafeteria, gymnasium, etc.), to ensure that no unauthorized persons, activities or immediately hazardous conditions (such as fire, burst pipes, etc.) exist.
  • Should an unauthorized individual or activity be observed by the AOD, the AOD should follow the appropriate facility procedure for securing the site, and immediately make a full report to the individual designated as in charge of the facility.
  • Immediately inform the director, supervisor, or the employee designated as being in charge of the facility of any irregularities noted during such inspections.
  • Assist counselors in emergency resident care situations. Such assistance may include the therapeutic hold of a child or Emergency Safety Intervention (ESI), if needed, or to request additional help through radio, phone, or direct contact.
  • Oversee and coordinate transport of residents to emergency health care facilities.
  • Oversee and coordinate the tracking and picking up of AWOL residents, should they require transportation back to the facility.
  • Conduct routine fire inspections and disaster drills.
  • Coordinate coverage for units/cottages should a scheduled worker not be able to perform their duties.
  • Collect all paperwork from the cottages/units for insertion into the central log (e.g. Accountability sheets, census, overnight staff check list, event reports).
  • Record notes for the shift in the electronic AOD department log.
  • Communicate with maintenance staff to ensure safe environment of all program areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

When functioning as the secondary AOD, the following additional duties may be required in addition to the duties listed above:

  • When required, transport residents to emergency health care facilities.
  • Pick up AWOL residents, should they require transportation back to the facility.
  • Provide coverage for units/cottages should a scheduled worker not be able to perform their duties.

Job Requirements

College Degree preferred with a minimum of two to three (2-3) years of work experience in a residential setting OR High School Diploma required with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a residential setting. Must possess a clean NYS Driver’s license.
