Job Description


 The Accountant functions in a line capacity performing general and specialized accounting work under the direction of the Supervising Accountant or Assistant Controller.  The Accountant preforms tasks with the guidance of the Supervising Accountant or Assistant Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  • Performs all accounting tasks as assigned, generally as related to a specific functional area of the Agency (i.e. Residential, Community Based Services, PWA, etc.)
  • Is expected to analyze fiscal trends and patterns within the scope of their assigned area and report any unusual or divergent patterns to their supervisor
  • Is responsible for posting to the general and any subsidiary ledgers
  • Ensures that there all ledgers are reconciled and analyzed.
  • Analyzes/audits monthly postings to ensure accuracy.
  • Is responsible for meeting deadlines regarding monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
  • Is responsible for ensuring contract compliance in detailing restricted funds as required through internal procedure
  • May be responsible for the preparation of regular internal or external financial reports as directed by their supervisor

Job Requirements

Minimal educational requirement of a BA in Accounting or closely related discipline and one year of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.  An Associate’s Degree and three years experience in Accounting is also acceptable.
