Job Description

The Kaplan House (Manhattan) is an urban residential facility that provides an extensive independent living skills program and therapeutic and support services to 25 older adolescent males, ages of 17-21 years old. These youth have been referred to us through ACS and the Juvenile Justice system, and have experienced significant trauma, resulting in behavioral, emotional, and functional/developmental issues.

The Jewish Board is currently seeking a Full Time Vocational Coordinator at our Kaplan House, in Lower Manhattan. The Vocational Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Vocational/Work Program for Kaplan House residents, including job readiness, internships, career development and placement, job retention.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting individual counseling and group workshops with residents, in the following areas: of money management, job preparation, job search, resume writing, employment skills, interviewing, etc.
  • Working directly with the residents to find them employment; assess their abilities and interests, and making appropriate referrals accordingly
  • Collaborating and building relationships with job placement and vocational training agencies and community-based organizations, as well as trade schools
  • Working closely with Education Coordinator in helping residents identify a Career track
  • Assisting in bringing guest speakers to Kaplan House to help reinforce work readiness and job retention topics as well as education in different careers; Networking with community businesses to develop job and internship sites in multiple areas of vocational interest; Supporting alumni to sustain employment and/or educational opportunities

Requirements:

  • A Master's Degree is required; LMSW preferred
  • Experience with adolescents and/or vocational programs
  • Excellent Communication Skills; Basic Computer Skills
