Job Description

OVERVIEW: Responsible for the day to day supervision of the program’s nursing and milieu staff regarding all medical procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  1. Oversee all aspects of the medical/nursing departments

  2. Participate in the evaluation of JBFCS or JBFCS-contracted medical staff

  3. Provide medical representation at IDT meetings

  4. Oversee pharmacy reviews and medication security procedures

  5. Insure that hospitalized clients receive and appropriate care

  6. Work as a liaison with program physicians and psychiatrists

  7. Manage prescription systems for all program medical providers and psychiatrists

  8. Assist in providing direct medical services when there is an unexpected vacancy in nursing staff because of an absence

  9. Coordinate with school nurses, nursing care and medical requirements for all residential clients who attend outside educational facilities

  10. Oversee implementation of specialized (e.g. Physical and Occupational) therapy for clients

  11. Responsible for guaranteeing infection control policy for

  12. Assure that all medical problems are communicated to the ADON/DON, physician and administrator as necessary, including follow up

  13. Develop and monitor nursing schedules Provide guidance and assistance to consultant pharmacist during medication and consumer chartaudits

  14. Ensure that all medication and treatments are administered appropriately and in accordance with facility policy and ICF/DD standard

  15. Will carry a beeper and be on callfor hi/her program

  16. Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum education level of a BSN or RN. Position requires specialized expertise in the area of mental health, development disorders. In addition, individual should be familiar with standard reporting requirements as dictated by those bodies to whom the division is accountable.
